Our History
Our History
Our origins as a parish community continues to inspire us in the mutual ministries and life we share in Christ’s Name and Fellowship.
The First Saint of St. Sacrement
In the early 1860’s, Henriette Thieriot, affectionately known as “Miss Hennie” and only about twenty years old, devoted her endeavors and energies to establishing a Sunday school, visiting and providing for the poor and the sick, as well as enlisting the cooperative goodwill of others in these various ministries. They began by gathering in a grove, on the lake shore, or in a barn. The continuing existence of a parish church of St. Sacrement is inconceivable without the witness of who would become Mrs. Henriette Thieriot Reade whose descendants are still strongly supportive of the ongoing mission, ministry, and witness of this community.
Setting a Cornerstone for a Church
On July 16, 1867, following a generous donation of the lot where the church now stands, a cornerstone was laid for what would become in two year’s time the building on the Rock where it continues to welcome people into the village and overlook Lake George.
The Continuing Cloud of Witnesses
Over the years many dedicated parishioners and clergy have continued to honor the founding vision of “Miss Hennie” devoting their time, talent, and treasure to both the beautification of our worship space and grounds, as well as to the ministries we are called to share in the love we have from and for God and for one another.
